People Ask if My Home is Perfect

October 6, 2022 by Ruth Hadlock

If a visitor was coming to your home in two hours, could you “restore order” calmly?

People often ask me if my house is perfect.  Not always, however, I can restore order within minutes because everything has a home.

When you toss items in random locations because you don’t know where to put them, that creates clutter. “Clutter is postponed decisions” – Barbara Hemphill

TIP: Designate a home for everything.

You know where your car is parked nightly and therefore don’t waste time searching for it. Let your entire day be like that, effortlessly finding what you need.

If My Calendar Was 100% Clear…

May 23, 2021 by Ruth Hadlock

Streamlined Space, Streamlined Solutions, Ruth Hadlock, If my Calendar was 100% clear

I’m not immune to procrastination just because I’m a Professional Organizer.  My clients relate.  They say they’re “too busy” to get through to-dos written down long ago.

I put myself to the test. If I wasn’t willing to do tasks in a 100% clear calendar, I committed to:

  1. Cross them off my list entirely.
  2. Delegate/ask for support.
  3. Assign specific dates to tasks and ask a friend for accountability.

Accomplishment from those completed, burden lifted by letting go of those I’d likely never do, relief from delegating/support, and empowerment from creating a plan for future actions.

Letting Go of “Just in Case” Items

February 20, 2021 by Ruth Hadlock

Streamlined Space, Streamlined Solutions, Ruth Hadlock, am I keeping this just in case, letting go

My clients say the most powerful quote I’ve shared is from theminimalists.com:

“Any ‘just-in-case’ item we get rid of which we truly need, we can replace for less than $20 in less than 20 minutes.”

This doesn’t refer to items you’ve identified as worthy of keeping.  It refers to items you keep “just in case they may be useful someday,” even though they haven’t been useful to you yet.

This is about letting go of the fear that keeps us holding onto things that don’t serve us in our lives today.

I read each and every reply you send me.

Would you like to do a 1-week experiment with me?

August 30, 2020 by Ruth Hadlock

What would your outcome be if you did this for seven days?

  • Put items away where they belong
  • If items have no home, create a home

Would you have clear, calm space?
Would you relax in your surroundings?

My clients worry they need to choose the “best” home; since that can be difficult, they postpone.  I encourage them to choose “a” home; simply make a decision.

Your power is in your focus.  CHANGE requires us to pay attention to an idea.

Reply to let me know how your experiment goes; I read each and every email.
